Is doublemyspeed.com worth paying for?
Doublemyspeed.com have been advertising heavily lately for their product, but I think it’s very deceptive, and nothing you can’t get for free these days. They let you download their trial version, but to take any action you have to buy the product. The actual product is Cyberdefender, which has a pretty bad reputation from people only getting partial or no refunds at all, and the adware that’s present even in the paid version.
The issue I have is the marketing of it, using doublemyspeed.com to imply that it’s somehow going to speed up your computer. A virus or trojan doesn’t usually slow a system down, they want control over your system, not to calculate PI. All antivirus programs slow a system down because of the scans they keep doing.
The best way is to set them so they don’t scan every web page you visit or every time you access a file or your system will be a dog. Let it run a complete scan each week and you should be ok. A side note, if you have children or teens, set their system with all options on because they’re much more likely to download something like a “free” game and get infected.

My two picks are Avira free antivirus and Search & Destroy which is also free. I haven’t come across anything they can’t get rid of, and there’s no annual fee for updates like many products out there. Avira has a sponsored ad that pops up at 9am each day, but it’s a free program so it’s hard to complain (and if you know how, even that can be turned off). Overall, I think doublemyspeed.com is really deceptive in their advertising. If you’ve had a good or bad experience feel free to leave a comment.

The two suggestions above also have you pay at the end. I went through each step for trial- then it dissapears and ask you to upgrade? Upgrade what? Nothing was complete. Nothing is free in life! I would have bought it if I saw it in action?
