Infolinks vs. Kontera

InfolinksInfolinks (infolinks.com) is a newer contextual advertising company I came across today and I’m going to see how they measure up against Kontera. A lot of the big names like John Chow use Kontera, but I’ve come across some other bloggers who said they’re doing better with Infolinks. What these places do is put relevant highlights on the keywords in your posts or even comments, and if someone clicks you get paid for it.

Infolinks is similar to Adsense, except I like this method better because it’s less intrusive. Also I think a lot of people see that format of Adsense and have become desensitized to it. Traditional banner ads only pull 1/4 of the clicks they did 4-5 years ago. Plugins like Adblock (which I use) really wipes out a lot of  exposure, so I put in an application with Infolinks today. If approved I’ll do a run with them and compare numbers in a month or two with friends using Kontera and have similar blogs. If you’ve had experience with Infolinks I’d love to hear from you.

Update: Yeah I’m going to pass on Infolinks for now and put it on hold. I just went over the blog and the keyword ads were so general “Know all you ever wanted to know about X”,  and the get rich quick ads “make $1,318 a day!” which I despise. The problem is you can’t just choose to advertise the categories you want (like not money making ones). I may look into Kontera and see if their ads are any better. This is a work in progress, but I couldn’t even get through my own articles, so many keywords were highlighted and the ad copy was so generic I’d never click on most of them, can’t see anyone else doing it either.

  1. Hi Nick,

This is Jonathan from Kontera. I think our company might be more accommodating towards your needs. If you contact one of our support representatives at support@kontera.com we can work with you to decide which type of ads and keywords won’t be displayed on your site.

We’re also not a get rich scheme. We have a great core product, a contextual algorithm that can scan webpages for meaning, not just keywords like other services, which leads to more relevant ads being displayed. We also work with reputable brand names like Microsoft, Volvo, Blackberry, Quaker, and L’Oreal. These premium, often Rich-Media are exclusive to Kontera, offer great CTR and the best CPC, and add rather than detract to your visitors’ experience on your site.

We also feature very competitive rates. We’re currently offering a 70% revenue share for new publishers, and offering a $50 bonus for any new publisher who gets at least 25,000 page views during their first 30 days on the network. In addition, we’ve recently lowered our minimum payout threshold from $100 to $50, so our smaller publishers are getting paid twice as fast.

If you’d like to learn more about our network, please feel free to contact me or look over our Publisher’s Page: http://www.kontera.com/publishers

    Thanks,
