If you don’t know about Open Office, you’re about to save some money. This has been made since 2002 and is an open source clone of Microsoft Office with really all the features and functionality. It originally started as the Star Office Suite and has evolved into it’s current version. Sponsored by Oracle, tons of programmers have contributed to the project. The end result is is that this suite of programs is arguably better and contains less bugs than Microsoft Office while offering all the functionality. I got sick of paying $495 for Office years ago and came across this during a search. One of the nice things is it reads all the Office files, and can save them in that format, without the cost.

I’m not really a cheapskate, but I won’t buy a Microsoft product when I can get the same thing (or better in this case) for free. I’ve used OpenOffice for years now and there’s nothing it can do that MS Office can’t. No file compatibilities, no problems or bugs I’ve ever run into.
